Propose Your Purpose
sounds kinda cool, right?
You have a reason for everything you do. Some things you do because of money, or health, or love, or laziness, or pride, or greed, or ego, or desire, or whatever.
You may not always know the “why” or the reason in the moment of your decision making, but there’s no doubting that it’s there.
Even if your wife inevitably asks you, “why the hell did you do that?”
And naturally you want to shrug and say “I don’t know”, there is still a reason. even if it’s as shallow as just wanting to for the fucking fun of it. Or to see if you could.
Short story: When my now wife and I were engaged (back when I used to drink like a fish) we were sitting on the couch watching TV and drinking boxed wine. I was putting that shit down and on one of my sips I was curious as to how hard I’d have to bite to break the glass. If it took too much effort I would stop. So I gave it, what I thought was a light bite) and I broke the glass off in my mouth. She looked at me like I was fucking crazy and asked “Why the hell did you do that?!” I said “I don’t know. I wanted to see how hard I had to bite to do it.”
As dudes we do dumb shit just because, or just to see if we can.
But a lot of the dumb shit we do is impulsive. We don’t think about why we do it. We just do it.
So I challenge you to slow down. Really think about what you do and why you do it. Wat’s most important to you and why is it most important to you.
Whatever your next venture is, money or fitness or whatever, state your why. State your purpose for what you do.
Tell people, tell yourself, write it down, remind yourself. Your why and your purpose should have deep meaning. It should be motivating. It should be your drive.
Without a strong purpose you don’t have a clear direction.
Own who you are, what you want, and why you want it.
This keeps the path clear.
All the best,
Ryan
